What does Reach 100 tell me?
As a Reach100 patient, it’s your choice.
- Initial Consultation
Our doctors will give you information about scientifically proven risk assessment and disease prevention strategies. You will receive a comprehensive list of individualised recommendations for which to choose your next step.
- Genome Health Package
Science is showing that as we age, our bodies
start making poorer copies of our DNA. Thanks to the development
of Genome Health Analysis, we can now determine the extent of DNA
damage through a simple blood test, and make recommendations as to
how to reduce damage to your DNA.
By choosing the Genome
Health Package, Reach100 patients can have a Genome Health Analysis
without the other tests involved in the Comprehensive Health Package. As part of this test, we will check the
levels of important micronutrients in your blood. Micronutrients
include red cell folate, serum folate and Vitamin B12 - all essential
to the body’s ability to replicate healthy DNA, as well as to
brain function and the generation of red blood cells. We will also
test your body’s ability to process folate. Your Reach100
doctor will then make recommendations about the health of your DNA,
based on the results of these tests.
All that’s required of you is a visit
to the Reach100 clinic, a blood test and completion of a consent
form and a health questionnaire.
- Genome Health Follow-up
Four months after your initial test, we recommend you return to Reach
100 for follow-up analysis to monitor any changes in your DNA, with
a view to fine-tuning your diet, exercise and/or supplements.
- Comprehensive Health Package
Choosing Reach100’s Comprehensive Health
Package gives you the equivalent of a “Major Service” for
your car – all
from one blood sample! Your fundamental health status will be
checked with the Genome Health Analysis described above, but testing
will be enhanced to include a broad range of blood tests for conditions
including anaemia, cell degeneration, cholesterol, diabetes, heart
abnormalities, impaired liver function, and even cancers. On
the basis of these tests, your Reach100 doctor will be able to provide
you with a comprehensive vision of your future health outlook and lifestyle,
dietary and exercise recommendations to manage it. After
four months, you’ll be entitled to the Genome Health Follow-up
at no extra cost.
The Reach100 Comprehensive Health Package tests for:
Anaemia
Anaemia, which causes tiredness and general lethargy, is a deficiency
of iron carrying red blood cells - the cells that carry oxygen around
the body. This can be remedied by a better diet or supplements. Doctors
can tell if you are suffering from this problem through a blood test
to check your haemoglobin (iron) levels and white blood cell count
to give an indication of how healthy your blood and bone marrow is.
Liver function
Our livers clean toxins
from the body so we really can’t afford
to have a liver that is not functioning well. A Liver Function test
checks your general blood chemistry and liver enzyme levels to assess
your liver function.
Cholesterol
High levels of bad (LDL) cholesterol can cause heart disease. Reach100
will check the level of cholesterol and other blood fats.
Problems processing folate
Folate is a vitamin crucial to the healthy development of babies in
the early stages of pregnancy. But if you have problems processing
folate, or your levels are too low, you could risk problems such as
having a child with the spinal cord problem spina bifida.
High or low blood pressure
High or low blood pressure can be an indicator of cardiovascular disease
and this should be checked regularly.
Diabetes
Our doctors will check
your blood glucose level for diabetes. Diabetes is a condition where
the body is unable to regulate blood glucose levels or becomes resistant
to the effects of insulin – the hormone
controlling glucose uptake by cells. Some people suffer a gradual
on-set of the disease and may not know they have it.
Cellular damage
Elevated cellular damage can be an indication of poor health and ageing
and can cause damage to arteries and the brain as well as diabetes
and arthritis.
Heart abnormalities and disease
We will check for any irregular heart rhythms and murmurs and further
testing in a cardiology clinic will measure the function of the heart.
Abdominal lumps and enlarged organs
Lumps, pain or enlarged organs detected by physical examination may
indicate disease in the abdomen (for example, liver disease or cancer)
Lung disease
During the physical examination, your lungs will be examined. There
are many lung diseases including emphysema, infection and cancer. Some
of these diseases create physical signs that the doctor will look for.
If further testing is required, this will be arranged as necessary.
Further testing may include lung function testing.
Weight problems
Australians are rapidly becoming more and more overweight. Being overweight
or obese is linked to an increased likelihood of many diseases but
especially high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease. Joint and
respiratory problems can also occur. In some cases, there are underlying
reasons for being outside the normal weight range. These may include
hormonal imbalances. We are able to test for these at Reach100.
Hormone testing
We can offer a range of hormone testing including thyroid function
and levels of female and male specific hormones. Some of these tests
are included as part of the health assessment and more detailed problems
are part of the specialist investigations that may be recommended.
Prostate Cancer
We will check your blood for indications of prostate cancer.
Other tests
Bowel cancer
We will use a standard test to check for bowel cancer
Kidney and urinary system
We will use standard tests to check for any abnormalities in the kidneys
or urinary system to check for any problems that may require further
investigation.
If our doctors think you need further specialist examination,
we can arrange for specialist tests/appointments you require. Such
tests may include:
Heart function/cardiology
Heart abnormalities and
disease are a serious health problem and people suffering them must
seek timely medical help. People can be born with heart abnormalities
and bad diets, while smoking and a lack of exercise can cause heart
disease. Tests
such as an echocardiogram (an ultrasound of heart function) a stress
ECG (an assessment of the heart while exercising) and stress CT (a
detailed method of imaging heart and lungs, including checking for
calcium in the arteries) are available to check for these problems.
Women’s health
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women after non-melanoma
skin cancer. In Australia, more than 11,000 new cases detected each
year. Early detection is the best weapon against this disease and regular
mammograms for women over 50 screens for it. Although breast cancer
primarily affects women, a small number of men are affected by breast
cancer, although only women can have mammograms.
A Pap Smear is a recognised screening test to look for cervical cancer.
This can be arranged through your own General Practitioner, your gynaecologist
or Reach100 if you are not up to date with this screening.
Men’s health
In Australia each year,
around 12,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and these are
not only men aged in their 70s or older. Men aged 50 and 60 and even
in their 40s are diagnosed with this disease. Early diagnosis is
critically important to beat it. We will use recognised
tests to check for any signs of the cancer. Urinary dysfunction may
require referral to a urology specialist.
Gasteroenterology
A colonoscopy is a procedure
where a telescopic examination of the bowel checks for any signs
of bowel cancer. An endoscopy, is a similar telescopic examination
that checks the stomach and upper small intestine for any problems
such as cancer or stomach ulcers. These procedures
are day surgery procedures.
